It is widely agreed that science advances by the scientific method, whereby all are engaged in the search for truth and theories stand until they fall, either to logic, or to experimentation, or to observed behaviour that improves or even disqualifies the theory.
Theories that stand the test of time gain wide acceptance but are not "proven" in the sense that they cannot possibly be improved by a better theory - that option is always recognised as a possibility.
For this process to succeed, scientists must challenge the status quo. Thus was Newton's theory of gravity displaced by maverick Albert Einstein's theories of relativity.
So one might deduce that the maverick who dares to challenge the status quo is indispensable to the advancement of true science. One might well be right, as this position is entirely logical.
Sciences that claim to be complete and fully known and therefore impervious to any proposed advancement cannot therefore be accepted at face value as there is always the possibility that new knowledge will come along that would improve or replace it.
Just as in matters statistical, correlation cannot be regarded as proof of causation, so in matters scientific, consensus cannot be taken as proof of correctness. Both correlation and consensus are regarded as indications of possibility, but not as proof.

But this article is not concerned with the climate controversies, but with medical history.
The American Medical Association (the AMA) is apparently guilty of excluding all the existing fringe (ie: "maverick") medical practitioners from membership by means of its founding code in 1847.
Therefore, medical science as practised by the AMA refutes the scientific method and cannot therefore be regarded as a science. The AMA is not therefore founded on science.
It is founded on commercial (or other) interest.
And where commercial/other interest meets government regulation, corruption never seems to be far behind ..
The rest of the world trails miserably in its wake. For now.
