Neil as always is perfectly correct it seems to me in his analysis.

OK, so where is my disagreement?

"Are we still a democracy? Does ultimate power rest with the People or not? I just want them to tell us"

No government ever voluntarily gives up any powers.

When we get to this stage of government overreach, it is not for the government to tell us anything - it is for we the people to tell the government.
