It cannot be said often enough that "modelling" is not of itself "science". It is simply mathematics - algorithms - applied to some sort of data by computers. It can be as complicated as you wish but it still of itself would not be "science".

The Scientific Method makes no mention of "modelling". Modelling is simply a computational tool used by anybody for any purpose. "Garbage in = garbage out" applies. As illustrated by Professor Ferguson when Covid first reared its unwelcome head.

Still, that doesn't stop the ignorant (or maybe even mendacious) from repackaging the evidence to appear authoritative ...

We are accustomed these days to believe that world wars are so last century, and that such a catastrophe could not occur any longer.

Really?

The Middle East is still a powder-keg waiting for a spark, Japan essentially went to war with America in WW2 to restore its supplies of oil (Strait of Hormuz anybody?), and either Russia or NATO are hell-bent on provoking the other in the Ukraine (one of these must be hell-bent or this idiocy would have been resolved long ago).

So will the spat between Europe (or should that be Britain?) and Russia become a fully fledged war?

Educated readers will recognise the title, lifted wholesale from Rudyard Kipling's poem "If".

It seems pertinent to Martin Geddes's latest offering - a technique for doing exactly this when major change threatens to cascade through our previously comfortable lives and overwhelm us.

The advent of "Covid" was one such event, but in my estimation, we are not yet done with such ...
... so any method of coping with the uncertainty may be something to welcome.
