Ben has started a new series of Wednesday reports, nominally on Russia, and inevitably on the relationships between the three primary powers in today's world - Russia the US and China.
And we are not talking just military - the commercial relationships are equally if not more important, as Europe is discovering the hard way.
The military is a prodigious consumer of materiall and effort - the balance between military spending and spending on peaceful progress may eventually determine whether the world destroys itself or becomes the peaceful paradise we would all prefer to live in and contribute toward.
But as yet there is still much to do to leave the past age of conflicts behind us, and move on toward peaceful cooperation.
