Now's our chance to set out our insistence on retaining, even extending, Trial by Jury. 

The alternative is trial by judge or tribunal. The government acting as prosecutor, judge, and jury all rolled into one. The government is debating it in the Lords currently.

Would you trust such an arrangement?

This becomes government by the judiciary - appointed, not elected, immune from elections.

It would be the death of democracy.
