It seems that very few of us can possibly have missed the recent blockage of the Suez Canal by one of the largest container carriers in the world, the Evergreen ship named Ever Given.
"Conspiracy theorists" the world over have been having a field day - but given that this blockage was certainly very real, maybe we should rename them "conspiracy realists" now?
Certainly there are a few points calculated to raise eyebrows . ..
a) The fact that such a modern ship, effectively sailed by satellite, should have somehow driven itself aground so fully that it took days to release it (a feat that might have been difficult to accomplish even by deliberate action)
b) "Evergreen" is supposedly the codename for Hilary Clinton
c) The ship's call-sign is reportedly "H3RC"
Anyway, now that it has been released and moved up to a secure anchorage out of the way of shipping, it has been impounded by the Egyptians pending settlement of their claim for costs.
Meanwhile rumours abound that containers are being opened and inspected and all manner of contraband found - do these rumours have any credibility? After all, the ship is not docked and no containers have been unloaded for inspection as far as can be determined - and the numbers of containers that might be physically opened up whilst still on board must be miniscule due to way that they are stacked. In my view, such reports seem fanciful.
