In view of our caring government's intention to mandate folic acid "fortification" of all non-wholemeal flour in the British Isles, one may ask why they did not first care to find out what caused the decline in the health conditions that it is claimed to prevent.
"Based on this evidence it is not actually folate that is the critical determinant it is gene methylation"
The government is not "following the science", it is following something else.
