  • The American Tradition of Ordered Liberty

    2020/10/16

Alexander William Salter traces the origin of the American Republic, from the Biblical stories of the children of Israel, through the Greek philosophers and playwrights, the Roman republic and the British "glorious revolution" that banished Catholicism from our monarchy and instituted the 1689 Bill of Rights.

If nothing else, he makes a persuasive case for a classical education, for how are the youngsters of today to understand today's politics without knowing the principles upon which our political institutions were founded?

  • We are following a failing Covid strategy and its costs are too high

    2020/10/16

So says Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, writing in Conservative Home, after resigning as Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department for Education.

Sadly it isn't those who carry little responsibility for setting government policy who should be going, but those who wilfully pursue a failed stratagem that hasn't any support even from the supposedly all-knowing W.H.O.

  • UK Stitched Up while Swiss Get Referendum

    2020/10/15

On current form by the time we get the next unviable choice of parliamentary candidates all crowbarring us with their largely unwanted and irrelevant party politics, our economy may be in ruins, inflation could well be rampant and much of our population may be destitute.

The Daily Telegraph asks the question - why do we in the UK get told what we must do (and if we don't like it, we can go lump it) whilst the Swiss have another option?

  • Reaping What Big Government Sowed

Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” — Galatians 6:7, King James Version

A review from an American perspective on why we shouldn't have expected a People's Government from current electoral arrangements.

"what company today does not know that Washington can crush it, if not for breaking Law A, then for running afoul of Regulation B, or tax provision C, D, E, or F?"

Replace "Washington" with "Westminster" if you live in the UK.

I ask myself whether the professors who teach medicine at any medical school in this country, most of whose research is being financed by the National Institutes of Health, whether they are really free to

  • The Guernsey General Election

    2020/10/14

Independence Daily reports on the recent General Election in Guernsey.

So what was special? Instead of casting one vote for a candidate standing in each individual constituency, each elector had a vote to cast for every candidate standing for their entire parliament, the Guernsey States.

That's like we in the UK having 650 votes each to cast to elect members of the House of Commons!

At least in Guernsey they only had 38 votes to cast.

As a model for a small parliament this is encouraging, but for a large parliament it would seem impossible to work.

Nevertheless, as the UK continues to suffer the results of our current parliamentary electoral system, it does highlight the thought that we should be able to think up a better way . . .

  • Power to the People!

    2020-10-05

This site has three primary purposes:
    • To encourage every one of us to think for ourselves.

If we have formed no convictions of our own, then we are open to manipulation (maybe worse) by others who would prefer us to support their agendas (if only by default).

This is the first prerequisite for personal freedom!

    • To encourage every one of us to act in accordance with our convictions.

Convictions which lead to action also lead to
