In a long but concerning article, Aussie Michael Rainsborough (the surname betrays his English origin) discusses the state of modern Britain and contrasts it with his view of modern Australia.

Without asserting that civil war is inevitable, he elucidates his concerns:

" ... an establishment seemingly bent on self-destruction, clinging to an incontinent immigration system and an almost devotional attachment to international and human rights laws that disadvantage its own citizens"

"The Brexit psychodrama exposed the extent of the rot. The political class, determined to thwart the referendum result, behaved with a deranged mixture of denial and contempt for the electorate"

(I have the Matt cartoon set from that time still hanging on my wall!)

Since our pseudo-Brexit, it has been abundantly clear that our political and journalistic classes owe their allegiance elsewhere than to their constituents, whom they still (but now obviously falsely) claim to represent. Martin Geddes' efforts have exposed the justice system for similarly departing from its historic mission to judge all cases both openly and impartially.

So are we destined for civil war?

Certainly there are good reasons to suppose that there are those who wish to foment such outcomes for the usual purpose of "divide and rule". So we must (however distasteful some may find it) join forces with the various ethnic communities to thwart such plans - we are stronger working together than we will ever be when fighting each other. So we must respect our differences, agree to set them aside, jointly recognise the game being played, and work together for the best outcome for all groups. After all, we are simply different aspects of the same humanity, and imagining that we can turn the clock back any time soon (or at all) is now delusional.

Yet predictions (especially about the future) are notoriously tricky - fate has a way of intervening in the best-laid scenarios, so I suspect it's too early to call. Probably wise to recognise the danger though....

What do you think?
