There are many unknown factors that leave big question marks over the history of planet Earth, which cannot be understood without an understanding of the history of our Solar System.
Just because the Solar System seems to be pretty stable now, that doesn't mean that it was ever thus.
So a wider thinking must be undertaken if we wish to understand the history.
