We must all be careful which words we sling about these days lest we are inadvertently deemed to offer offence - but surely offence has to be taken before it can be said to have been given? It's a bit like a contractual arrangement - where no meeting of minds occurs, there is neither contract nor offence...

In times past the judiciary had a robust attitude to free speech - that free speech without the possibility of offence wasn't worth having - that certainly inculcated a certain necessary robustness in those who are perhaps too easily offended, and permitted them to respond in kind - ie: to stick up for themselves.

Well, the cost of energy is more of less the determinant of a nation's prosperity, so if it rises then all our costs wax and our real prosperity wanes, whilst if the cost of energy falls then our costs wane and our real prosperity waxes.

Well, never mind, we can trust our politicians to make it more complicated than that, and one of the ways they do this is to cherry-pick which costs they include and which they exclude, and then to apply fiendishly complex market (-fixing) mechanisms and stealth taxes that all somehow act to increase the price we pay.

Regular readers will have noticed that I don't publish too much about Covid any more. It's not that it isn't important, but there's a lot else besides that needs saying these days.

Still, Mike Yeadon has published an important summary (nothing new there, in either sense!) that serves as a very useful reminder that Covid was precisely conceived as a psy-op.

Both he and I noticed quite quickly that Covid as a pandemic was seemingly exceptional in not creating any surge of excess deaths if we ignored reported cause of death. So either the cause of death was misreported, or there was no pandemic, or Covid itself somehow suppressed other normal causes of death.

It turned out that as Covid arrived, flu flew away, just like that!

Leaving aside the inconvenient fact that without carbon dioxide, vegetation would not grow and we would all perish from starvation, it could still be just about plausible that too much CO₂ would be in some way damaging... for instance, if we had 100% CO₂ then we would all suffocate for lack of oxygen.

Happily, in the presence of sunlight and green vegetation, 100% CO₂ would be impossible, since the vegetation would convert it to oxygen in short order (probably strangling us within its infinitely-enfolding tendrils in the process). All without even considering the similar aquatic life that also processes CO₂ in the oceans.

Which rather begs the question: if the vegetation (farmed or natural) already performs the carbon capture process for free, what need to invent an artificial capture process?

Have we reached "peak insanity" yet? Part of me believes that we reached it long ago, but that other irritating yet maddeningly always correct part of me avers that if that were true, things would by now be getting better, rather than worse. 

So I must concede - no, we have not reached peak insanity just yet.

Who says so?

An independent financial publication whose team represents both the pro renewables and anti renewables viewpoints (both being relevant to the purpose of investing our private savings).

Why won't it?
