Yes, OK, this article is primed to upset just about everybody, but the key here is to separate two distinct issues:

(a) your faith in your understanding of the Jesus of the Bible - which when all is said and done does portray a pretty decent kind of fellow who was humble, knowledgeable, powerful, generous, logical, and saintly to die for others; all in all a good model to emulate, and

(b) our understanding of history that suggests that somewhere along the way, the name and indeed the whole story line somehow evolved from a merger of two quite different concepts of the nature of "God". In some ways the "old" and the "new" testaments may be thought to separate these two concepts, but both were and still are always present throughout.

Our understanding of (a) and (b) are, despite first appearances, not intrinsically mutually exclusive, although they do take some effort to disentangle from each other.

I first came across Billy Carson when I encountered his book "Compendium of The Emerald Tablets - a Beginner's Guide". He comes across as a researcher of ancient history who exhibits integrity - he ploughs his own furrow, and I tend to take what says seriously. Ancient history is bedevilled by a wide variety of unknown or little known ancient languages, ancient but mysterious texts artefacts and megaliths whose origins remain largely shrouded in the mists of both antiquity and fairly obvious modern (but not to exclude ancient) cover-ups, and a fascinating amalgam of myths legends fabulous beasts and historical figures that go by many names in many cultures ...

The list of problems goes on and on, and anybody who can dive deeply enough down these rabbit holes to emerge with a coherent explanation of a fair bit of it is, in my view, deserving of our attention.

As always, it's your view that counts:
