It's an ill wind that blows no good, and this wind has been blowing for centuries.
The potential for "no good" is such that there is likely to be plenty of it, pending the ultimate collapse of the guilty parties.
The good news is that we can now see those guilty parties much more clearly, the bad news is that they are everywhere. Nor are they nations (although they are in national governments), they are elements within those governments' hierarchies, especially at and close to the top. And the key to their collapse looks likely to be financial - they will run out of other people's money.
The collapse seems likely to be spearheaded (if that's the right word) by the implosion of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INC which may reportedly indeed run out of other people's money (gold, oil, etc) in a month or three - but that corporation is not the republic of the United States, it is simply their contractor that has been administering their territories following the bankruptcy arrangements entered into following the Civil War (this is the short version!).
It is also a culmination of the battle between rival concepts - top down control by an unaccountable elite vs bottom up control by "we the people", likewise top-down control by a central AI vs bottom up manifestation through the sum of human consciousness.

Let us hope that like the phoenix, the republic of the united states will rise again from beneath the ashes of USA INC, followed shortly thereafter by the Anglosphere, and the rest of the world.
(NB: "shortly" is a term relative to the centuries over which this crisis has been developing)
